As a job seeker, I can state that monster.com, and other heavily trafficked job search sites have not been effective in aiding my job search. The issue is that there is a large amount of traffic on sites like monster, and just as I am seeking job on these sites, so are many thousands of others. The result is that jobs of any quality get thousands of resume submissions, and rarely will I, or anyone else, be the most qualified for a given position.

The old advice about networking is still true, because if you know someone at a given company you can break through the clutter, and at least get a serious interview. Also, the various job fairs offer a chance to meet individually with employers in a way that monster can’t.

Bottom line is while monster, adn others are still a tool to use, they should not be the only, or even primiary tool one uses for a job search
