Meet Coralee, an Angel of Dream ‘Sara’ BJD.

What’s a BJD, you say?

It’s time for a little lesson ;)

Ball-jointed dolls (BJDs) are exactly what they sound like. They are Asian dolls, most commonly made from resin, that can be moved and posed, even customised, to the owner’s taste. They come in a variety of shapes and sizes, and for the majority are pretty human-like. There is no limit to what you can do to modify these dolls – in the hands of professionals they can look like anything or anyone that your imagination can come up with. They can be customised from their wig and clothes right down to the colour of their eyes and skin. There are hundreds of companies producing these dolls, including Angel of Dream, DollZone and LUTS as the most popular choices.

The thing that scares/unnerves people most about these dolls is that they look like humans but are actually inanimate objects. But for me, and a lot of the BJD community, that’s what attracts me to them. Lots of people have asked the question ‘what are they for?’ The uses range from photography and art design to simply comforting or emotional value. There’s something about them that just reassures you when you come home from a stressful day at school or work. And believe me – they make excellent models for photo shoots.

However, they’re a bit more expensive than your average barbie doll. A tiny 20cm doll can cost you around the $100 mark, but a 60-70cm doll can set you back from $250 to over $600!!!

So yes, not cheap xD
