First Tree

Acrylic and pastel on illustration paper. (1995)
This is truly the first tree I ever painted, the need to paint and create was something brewing so strongly inside I had to do something about it. Yet my resources were very limited, I grabbed the only paint I had any access to, a can of my father’s black spray paint, I sprayed it into the lid of the can and used the only paintbrush I owned a cheep nylon brush from a water color kit and created. I then finished my work with the only two pastels I owned brown and black.
Necessity is the mother of invention, or maybe it’s that there is more than one way to skin a cat. (Sorry cat lovers) At any rate I grew up in a home with very few luxuries but I did have a passion to create, always, I had to feed the creativity. So this is a very special piece to me and I hope to you as well.
First Tree is officially published in Artists of West
First Tree was Featured in Lifestyles Magazine as part of an article about the Artists of the West coffee table book.
I am also honored to announce my painting First Tree was a part of the Rialto Towers two week art exhibit in Melbourne, Australia in of July 2007

I can’t work out verbally why this captures my attention so much…it just does… to me its one of the most spell binding pieces I have seen on redbubble. Thank you for sharing.
Carrie Glenn in reply to NATURELENS’s comment, 7 months ago
Thank you Neil, it’s funny because I would have never guessed that! It’s such an old piece you know and so simple. I just knew sentimentally I wanted to share it but it never thought it would mean much, so your comment means a LOT to me, thanks Neil. (I truly LOVE your photography, you are so talented!)

Carrie Glenn in reply to ElRobbo’s comment, 7 months ago
Hey ElRobbo; thanks!!! ;) Nope, no charcoal, just run ‘o the mill spray paint and pastel for the brown plant and orange sun. ;) I think it’s just looking like that because it’s a bit aged. Thanks again!

Spectacular piece of work. Instant Favorite. I love the title, for me it brings to mind thoughts of life, creativity, inspiration and possibilities, all of which I feel are expressed wonderfully here.

Simple can be good. For years all I had were lead pencils and the leftover pages of my daughters’ school books.
Wonderful result despite your limited resources
Carrie Glenn in reply to KazM’s comment, 3 months ago
Thanks KazM I really appreciate your comment…yeah it’s great how when you HAVE to create you will use whatever you have. Somethings really cool things can be birthed from that. Hopefully you saved some of those drawings…I bet they are cool!!! Thanks again for your lovely comment! ;D
