i remember when i was young
playing in the grass, climbing in the trees
learning where i could go to stay safe,
and where i couldnt go
i remember my first love,
the way she looked my way,
the way she would make me chase her to mate,
finally creating a family together
i remember when my first child was born,
so happy and proud,
teaching them the way of life as best as i knew how
i remember the day the heat came,
flames all around,
my brothers, my sisters, my family running
not knowing where to go
i remember looking for my loved ones,
my children, and my family
looking for the one’s i shared my land with
now all are gone
i remember those who i have grown up to fear,
trying to grab me, knowing i should run.
but i knew i needed them,
their gentle voices ringing in my head
their hand reached out for care
i remember a time i wasnt hurting,
roaming as i please
now i lay here wondering if i will ever see the fields
so many lost, so many gone
all they were doing was try to move on
its a shame my brothers, my sisters, species of all kinds
are now gone forever, with just a few left to carry on
think of how you loved to chase me
whistle so i would look up
think of how you invaded my home
making me learn to live your way
i wish i could speak to you, the one who is trying to help me,
i wish i could tell you how i feel
the only thing i can wish for
is you’re able to look into my eyes
and you can see the appeal
please help in any way you can for the wildlife-appeal
it doesnt matter how big or small,
it doesnt matter if you give your art at all,
just spread the word about my fate
everyone needs to know,
because there are many more that are apt to go
