even tho, this guy is tagged, he’s still a beautiful animal. magnificent is the only word that keeps coming to my mind. shot this last oct of 2009 in cataloohcee, on the north carolina side of the smokies.
i was literally within 30foot of this huge animal. elk are huge compared to the deer in cades cove
number 17 is one of the first elk re-introduced into the park. no doubt he’s sired a lot of descendants. his rack was Huge! 15 pointer, so he has some good age on him. he’s one of the bulls that is in the battle
in this situtation, he was across the small lane we drive on , chased by another bull elk. the other guy had all the women, and he just wanted a few.
after standing there for awhile, he finally got brave enough to cross back over.
standing there with tripod, he watched as i and others watched him crossing back over. closest ill ever be to an elk
totally amazing experience, also..17 seems to be my number :)

oh gosh soxy, at the shoulders he’s at least 6 foot , probably weighs 600 to 800 pounds, this is just a guestimate..i do know he was a lot larger then me! lol
