engulfed in flames
another shot of the fire my volunteer fire dept was putting out wednesday night..this is a old landmark that used to be a restaurant, then a river tubing company, the river tube company has been closed for two years now. this was the 4th time this building has been caught on fire, this time..its a goner, happy to say no firefighters were harmed
you could feel the heat off this thing from 25-30 foot away! but then after all died down, we all like to have frozen our “hoses” off!! temps got down below 30 degrees (F), and we were all soaked!
it was a real challenge, shooting this , because the ony light was from the fire, and the trucks, and i hand held camera for all of the shots
im happy to say out of 112 shot, i only deleted close to 10, if that
here is the link to the local tv station that has put my shots on there

I find this hard to look at this Chris…...but very well done….It took 6 weeks for the bush fires to be contained in our area..terrifying…My husband and family very fire conscious..We were without electricity and phones…Road blocks aswell…12 months hve gone by and i am still affected by what we saw and went thru…..thanx for sharing..sorry about the fire…

Great work

Oh, Chris, what a sad sight to see this handsome structure going up in flames! Few of us get close enough to a fire like that to witness it first hand much less to fight the fire to protect life and property. Firemen are heroes and my hat is off to you and your crew. Let’s pray for the family who lost so much; it must be a dreadful time for them as Jayne has indicated. This photo is a compelling documentary about the fragility of life and the uncertainties we face day to day.

bonnie thanks so much, luckily this building had been vacant for almost two years, it wasnt a home, it used to be a restaurant years ago, and then was a river tube business that had been closed for almost two years

Great capture Chris. The fire supplied the perfect light and the hues and shades of the orang red colors are breathtaking. Spot on exposure with details in shadows and highlights and a well composed image contribute to a very dramatic and cisually captivating image.

BTW: I like the fire shots. Not something I could just run out and arrange unfortunately . . . I’m pretty sure the authorities frown on starting house fires in the name of photography.

Sean Farragher
amazing capture,,heat must have been wicked
Elizabeth Aust...
It’s strange how the most beautiful things are often the most dangerous (I appreciate the dichotomy) – this is a terrific shot! My brother was a fire officer for 17 years, after leaving the Marines (he needs danger in his life) and I respect all those who fight fires.

Scary images here of this fire, Christopher, and hats off to you for doing your volunteer job.
