What a great photo, Chris! You are indeed lucky. There are no elk in Ohio, but I lived with them in the Rockies. They are amazing creatures especially during rutting season.

i had just gotten some young bulls rutting it out, when i looked over and saw the big guys having a go at it, totally awesome. they were close enough you could hear their antlers and bodies hitting.

Great to see this. Funny. I have been to Cataloochee (75 minutes drive) during the rut about 10 times to try to catch this…No luck…However, I have seen the white tail bucks spar in Cades Cove which is a two and a half hour drive from me while catching some time from coaching in Knoxville. You take the opportunities when you get them.

I wonder if one of these is the one that got poached. If you had not heard about it check out my forum post about it in the Smokies group.
