king of the road

Christopher Ewing

king of the road

this guy was just walking casualy down the road in the park the other day. he stopped traffic a few times, and when people would start honking when they didnt know why they were stopped he’d head off into the woods for just a few minutues.
as brutus and i were heading out, i knew this guy wanted to walk in the street!! so we pulled over on one of the pull overs and just waited. within a few minutes , here this guy comes.
i was within about 20-30foot of this guy coming down the road, eating greenery was he was walking by

so it was a matter of just hoping the light would hold out while getting shots of him (had to up the ISO to 1600 for this)
this guy looks like he’s been in a few battles, definitely has alittle age on him.
its great seeing the bears look so healthy this year, they are huge! the biggest i have seen to date

Shot this in SS mode
Ss at 1/125
F-stop at F5.6
ISO at 1600
focal length at 250mm
Ev at +0.7

Great shot! It seems almost the norm to have to up the ISO. Saw a Mum last night that even with the ISO up I could not get a decent shot. Of course she was up in the forest. I always get a chuckle out of the tourist trying to get a shot with their phone cameras! And I agree the bears are looking very healthy this year! Right on!

You lucky guy. There was a small black bear so close to the side of the road in the Rockies this weekend we could have almost touched him. But I couldn’t stop because of the narrow mountain roads and traffic right on my butt!

Great shot, Christopher! Why do people have to honk will driving through the cove. If you are in a hurry to get somewhere, do not go to Cades Cove. It is for relaxing, communing with nature, taking it easy, and just taking in every moment as it comes. Some people don’t seem to get it!
