fogbow

Well we have heard of rainbows, and moonbows, but how about a fogbow?
I was hiking along my favorite road in Cades Cove, Sparks Lane, one foggy morning. I had been following a buck and his doe. Dont know what inspired me to turn around, but when I did I saw this. Was a great Christmas treat for me.
First time ever I have seen a fogbow. Grabbed a few shots of it before it faded quickly as the sun was rising.
This shot is now published on the Atmospheric Optic Website, just go here

Wonderful! Light was reflecting from the fog, and maybe the droplets were too small?
It’s got all the other characteristics of a rainbow, including different colors of blue under and outside of a rainbow. Send it to Atmospheric Optics, and ask if anybody’s seen or knows about bows like these.

  • Christopher E... replied

thanks so much dayonda, i have contacted the owner of that website, he is planning on publishing this shot on it :)

  • Vicki Ferrari

Amazing capture Christopher! The fence posts have even left a shadow in the fog, making it look more like a painting beyond the fence line (what Kelly said!!) So magical! Favourite! Are you sure the pot of gold wasn’t hidden under a bucket of mist?!! I believe the pot of gold was turning around and seeing this! I am having a giggle though, imagining you fumbling with your camera trying to get it all set captured, and fast! I know I can fumble when I am excited about a shot that is going to disappear in a short period of time :))!
