what if
on this date 45 years ago, one of the most loved presidents was assassinated.
it was on this date in novemember 22, 1963, John Fitzgerald Kennedy who wanted to change the world, was taken down by the very people who wanted things to stay the same.
occassionally i wonder, what if….
what if he hadnt been assassinated..
would our guys in vietnam had come home sooner?
would the world be in a better place?
would our societies get along?
would racism finally slow down to a nil?
would our country still be a strong one, confident and not living in fear?
we wont ever know
it’s a shame we now have a man who wants to bring peace within this country and around the world, has to worry about facing the same dilemma as the most loved president of our country did.
i deliberately shot at this angle, coming up with the title in my head as i was shooting. i didnt want the “end” date there, as if he still lived on, just as his eternal flame lives on.

I think that most of us who lived through that day remember where we were and what we were doing when this came on the news. I know I do and I have also thought many of those same thought that you have listed, but as you say we will neve know.

What a wonderful tribute to an American president beloved around the world. I was in grade school in Canada when they announced the shooting of this man and it has had a pronouned effect on my generation! It certainly would be a different world! Excellent shot Christopher, I really love the angle and clarity!

I was a sophomore in college and we gathered in the commons room so there were about 50 of us gathered around the TV, you could hear every word that was said on the TV because we were all so thunder struck we just sat there and watched without saying hardly a word other than “oh my god”. I actually shook his hand once when he dedicated a new lake dam in my home state. He was an impressive individual and we admired him so much.

Great reminder Christopher, 45 years ago today, and I remember it like yesterday, the total disbelief that someone could do such an awful thing. He could have easily been the best President ever.

I remember this day as if it were yesterday, and recall exactly where I was too at the tender age of 12 years.
JFK was a fine President, and he will always be remebered.
Love this shot Chris and love the angle..especially the idea he will live on.

definitely shills and goose bumps as i read your words, and yes another “911” day, as young as i was i remember the feel of terror , fear, and sadness around everyone, your angle is perfect , and the feel was the same standing indallas outsideand in the building where he was shot!

Love the perspective and your reasons for it – and am definitely moved by both words and image. For those of us old enough to remember this day as it happened, your question has resonated through all these years. Profoundly moving image Christopher.

Great title, and great angle in this shot. I’m too young to remember JFK, but I can remember his brother running for President, which also ended tragically. This shot is a wonderful reminder of a different time when there was so much hope.
