Cornflower so blue by Celeste Mookherjee

Available to buy on…

(Please enlarge to see details!) I came upon a tiny patch of cornflowers and loved exploring them individually with my macro lens. This was composed in the camera (not cropped) and post-processed with a combination of effects: two layers (different blending modes and opacities, masked) of the new oil paint filter in Photoshop CS6 (I finally upgraded as my Christmas gift to myself) plus a texture layer (“Meadow” – Tableaux collection) from Leslie Nicole’s French Kiss Textures. (Olympus E-5 & Zuiko 50mm macro, f/11, 1/60 sec., ISO 1600, heavy overcast, handheld)

Such wonderful detail Celeste ~ and a gorgeous colour.
    A truly beautiful image overall!!!

  • Thanks very much, Sharon! Traditional cornflowers in blue are one of my favorites, and this one was at such a perfect stage that I had to capture it!

Perfect. The moment that I saw this I knew that you had the CS6 oil filter! Fun, isn’t it? But you have improved it with additions…..

  • Yes, the oil paint filter is fun, but I tried it on several images and with a lot of playing with settings before I was entirely happy. No default settings on this image, and I also lessened the filter’s effect in the green areas with about 50% masking (plus added some texture in those same areas).

    Beautiful image…love the effect, Celeste!

  • Thank you, Lynn, I’m glad you like it. The filter does some really interesting things to detailed areas.

beautiful detail and colour Celeste, if only our eyes could see the way macro lenses do … there is so much detail we miss in so many ‘small’ things when we look at them with our eyes …

  • Thanks very much, Annette! You’ve hit on one of the reasons I love macro so much – the small wonders that a macro lens can reveal.

Gorgeous colour blues. Wonderful different parts to this flower.
    Beautiful work.

  • Thank you, Joy! Cornflowers are quite old-fashioned, and I’ve known and loved them from childhood (when I knew them as Bachelors Buttons, one of many popular names for the same flower).

Absolutely beautiful, Celeste!! Wow, that color is amazing!!

  • Thank you so much, Laurie! Traditional cornflowers do have a beautiful blue color, but shooting under overcast conditions brings that color out even more.
