“I found I could say things with color and shapes that I couldn’t say any other way – things I had no words for”
~ Georgia O’Keeffe

Georgia O’Keeffe is one of my greatest artistic inspirations because I connect deeply with her emotional understanding of curves and lines in nature. Here, another of my much-loved calla lilies (no crop, composed in camera). This is also the cover image for my Calla Lily Calendar. (Zuiko 50mm macro, f/4.5, 1/160 sec., ISO 200, open shade, handheld) Texture courtesy of Shadowhouse Creations.

Wow, Superb! This is one great calla lily image, I love your pov, composition and presentation. It has an abstract quality to it posed diagonally like that with the wonderful contrast of white against that dark green boken! Excellent work!

  • Many thanks for your thoughtful comment, Joanne. I have such a good time when the callas are blooming, always looking for perfect curves. I recall spending quite a bit of time on this one flower.

This has the appearance of a calla monument. very classical beauty.

  • Perhaps a monument to calla curves, which, as you say, are classical. Thank you, Bette!

Gorgeous form and tone. Great angle.

  • Thank you so much, Joy! I know it’s not a very typical angle for photographing a flower, but some callas seem to encourage a different approach. I’ve been known to get myself into quite a twist when trying these angles. :)
