This checkerspot butterfly was perched on a piece of fruit in a butterfly exhibit (outdoors but screened in), giving me a great opportunity to get some really close macro images. Because butterflies are free to fly within the screened enclosure, the photographer still must have quick reactions, but at least the butterflies can’t go too far. The enlarged view shows more detail! (Olympus E-510 & Zuiko 50mm macro, f/8, 1/160 sec., ISO 100, filtered morning sun, handheld.)
