In Southern California, roses often reach a second peak of beauty in October and November, as you can see in this example from a rainy October morning. (Olympus E-510 & Zuiko 50mm macro, f/8, 1/125 sec., ISO 200, rain/overcast, handheld.) Textures (Atelier and Fauve Raw Sienna) are from the Artiste collection at Leslie Nicole’s French Kiss Textures.

Gorgeous work. All the tones complement each other so well.

  • Thanks very much, Joy! The background actually started out pretty plain and mostly brown, but the textures helped inject some autumn color and warmth. Glad you like it!

Such a stunning rose, light and textures! The droplets an extra touch! Love it! Our roses usually bloom until November, but they were chewed up something terrible by insects this year.

  • Thank you, Angie, for the lovely comment and fave! So sorry about your roses and the insects!

What a beautiful Colour this is Celeste, I have to say my roses have been very poor this year.

  • Thanks very much, Karen! Strange weather in many places has affected some flowers more than others, and I’m under the impression that roses can be a bit delicate to manage.

The pumpkin orange color is just so seasonal and rich, Celeste. It’s hard to beat the classic beauty of a perfectly formed rose and this one has the added bonus of some fresh raindrops. The texture layer puts even more warmth into this gorgeous image.

  • Chris, thank you for your thoughtful comment and fave! The more I experiment with textures, the more I’m amazed at what they can do. In this case, my background was basically soft brown, but one of the two textures allowed me to pull out golden and russet tones to compliment the rose.

You do this sort of thing so beautifully, Celeste! The pumpkin yellow is so attractive!

  • Thank you for the lovely compliment and fave, Bette! I sometimes enjoy going beyond the capture when I work with textures, as I’m finding out how versatile they can be.
