On the recommendation of a photographer friend, I visited the Sherman Library & Gardens in Corona Del Mar, California (USA). It was much too hot to be out in the sun, but there I was anyway and having a good time despite the perspiration stinging my eyes. I was almost ready to leave when a pretty little skipper flew into the patch of rudbeckias I had been photographing. It wasn’t until I saw the image on my monitor that I realized the skipper’s hairs were iridescent in the sun! (View enlarged!) I cropped the image slightly and did basic sharpening only; the image is otherwise straight from the camera. (Olympus E-5 & Zuiko 50mm macro, f/8, 1/640 sec., ISO 200, afternoon sun, handheld.)
