I created this image in honor of an Internet friend who is a poet and photographer in Damascus, Syria. Mohammad and I have followed each other’s work for a long time, starting well before the current violence in his country. World news suddenly became personal because now whenever Syria is mentioned in the news, I worry about Mohammad and his family and friends. The global village has become real for me, and so I am dedicating this photo of an Aleppo pine (Aleppo is the largest city in Syria) to Mohammad and all the people of Syria as a prayer for peace. (Olympus E-5 & Zuiko 70-300mm zoom at 190mm [380mm in full-frame 35mm equivalent], f/8, 1/250 sec., ISO 1600, open shade, handheld)
