I started out with an image of a water lily partly in sun, partly in shade, and then began playing with Topaz filters and textures. I took some guidance from a tutorial by Leslie Nicole on using textures with a black background (parts of my original background were black). (Olympus E-5 & Zuiko 70-300mm zoom at 215mm [430mm in full-frame 35mm equivalent], f/8, 1/500 sec., ISO 200, filtered afternoon sun, handheld) Post-processing in Topaz Simplify (flower only, oil painting preset at 75% opacity); textures (Ciboulette5184 and Deco Verte) from Leslie Nicole’s French Kiss Textures.

I can’t hope to follow the processes that made this! It’s a lovely product of all that and a favourite for me. I think of shot shantung when I look at it.

  • The processes are there because some groups ask for them, and I know that some fellow artists also appreciate the information. If the image appeals to you, that’s more than enough to make me happy. :)

Love how the flower is lit up. Beautifully done.

  • Thank you so much, Joy! For a straight shot this had way too big a dynamic range, but using textures tamed the dynamic range.

Amazing photoArt Celeste. The textures are intriguing in the sense that they keep me engaged, my eyes always drifting back to the soft, alluring light radiating from the bloom.

  • Thank you, Richard, for the thoughtful comment and fave!
