I spotted a beautifully formed pink rose and wanted to emphasize its soft curves, first by using a large aperture during capture and later by using masked layers of textures and some digital hand-painting. This is my result after using portions of four texture layers (the darkest of which was painted only into shadow areas) and some manual brushwork on separate layers. Please enlarge to see the details! (Olympus E-5 & Zuiko 50mm macro, f/2.5, 1/500 sec., ISO 200, open shade, handheld) Textures used are from Leslie Nicole’s French Kiss Textures (Tableaux/Windsong and Symphony, Artiste/Joyeuse and Textures 2/Rembrandt).

What all-round skill you have, Celeste! This is very beautiful indeed.

  • Thanks very much, Bette! Textures for me are still very much a work in progress, but I love the process and the exploration.

Looks stunning enlarged!!!! Love the painterl effect, here, Celeste. And the color combination is just right.

  • Thanks very much, Eby! True, I was going very much for the painterly look here (which has been so far much better received here on RB than on Flickr). I’m glad you like it, as your opinion means a lot to me.
