Artist's Description

I have been attracted to the delicate color and frilled petals of this hibiscus variety for a long time. (It grows at the edge of the main dahlia garden at my local botanical garden.) As many times as I’ve photographed the blossoms on this shrub, I’ve managed very few passable images, much less good ones. For me, it seems that something about the form and depth of the hibiscus flower makes it a special challenge. It was just after my painting class and a very hot day when I created only a few images in a bit of a hurry, and for once I was happy with one. This is straight from the camera with only light sharpening in Topaz Detail. (Olympus E-5 & Zuiko 50mm macro, f/8, 1/125 sec., ISO 400, open shade, handheld)
