I’m sure I looked quite silly chasing a peacock and trying to get a close-up capture of his glorious tail plumage. Then again, I’ve done it so many times, as these birds are not at all interested in standing still for photographers – but still I persist. This gorgeous eye spot belongs to one of the hundreds of peacocks who live in the open, not caged, at the Los Angeles County Arboretum. Persistence pays off. :) (Olympus E-510 & Zuiko 70-300mm zoom at 215mm [430mm in full-frame 35mm equivalent], f/6.3, 1/250 sec., ISO 100, open shade, handheld)

That really is some sort of visual magnificence, Celeste…just outstanding colors! Only you could come up with this via peacock tail plumage….really a work of art…

  • Thanks, Katherine, glad you like it! Actually, I’ve seen plenty of other close-up images of peacock feathers, but they are more often created when the feather is no longer attached to the bird. :)

Great angle of light so you can see all the different details and colours. Beautiful work

  • Thanks very much, Joy! I really wanted to capture all the tiny details in the feathers, the ones the unaided eye really doesn’t see.

Well it was definitely worth the chase Celeste :-) . . .superb detail and the colour is wonderful . . .x

  • Thanks very much, Teresa! Percentages of good images were extremely low on every visit, but one hit makes the effort worthwhile. :)

Not going to say a word about you chasing a Peacock. ( The mind boggles ) The shot of the eye was worth the effort though. Cheers. Tony. :-)

  • Thank you for your kind restraint, Tony. ;) It was worth it to me, as I’ve wanted a close and detailed image of a peacock feather ever since I first saw the birds at the Arboretum.
