The roots of this magnificent old jacaranda tree caught my attention with their wonderfully textured and knotted appendages, but it was the scattering of fallen blossoms that added grace and color to the scene. (Olympus E-510 & Zuiko 35mm macro, f/8, 1/100 sec., ISO 100, overcast, handheld)

Stunning capture. Love it and the fallen blooms made the image.
Thanks very much, Sandra! I agree, it wouldn’t be nearly as interesting without the blossoms.

Well seen, Celeste. Jacaranda blossoms beautify city streets every year, but how much better they look on and around the roots of their parent tree!
Thank you, Bette! You’ve got it exactly: we notice the branches full of blossoms but often overlook the beauty on the ground. I was photographing branches against the sky shortly before I saw this tapestry on the ground, and this is by far my favorite from about 10 minutes of shooting.

Really lovely Celeste and so different. Something about the trees… their trunks and roots… and even when they’re dead they still give such life… I’ve just added a couple of pics of a fallen tree. Check it out if you have time.
Thanks very much, Sandra! Will take a look at your new work a little later.
