This is a partial view of the formal rose garden at South Coast Botanic Garden (Palos Verdes Peninsula, California, USA). I created this image as one of a series of garden scenes for promotional use. I was after a wide-angle view to show a lot of the garden, which could have ended up with little more than dots of color instead of recognizable roses. I solved that by getting very close to a tall cluster of roses and crouching for a low angle, letting the roses frame the garden and fountain beyond. (Olympus E-510 & Zuiko 9-18mm zoom at 18mm [36mm in full-frame 35mm equivalent], f/22, 1/80 sec., ISO 200, morning sun, handheld.)
