A pair of bright red orchids photographed inside the Rose Hills Conservatory at The Huntington in San Marino, California. The gray wall behind the flowers was a little blah, so I warmed it up and added a subtle texture. (Olympus E-5 & Zuiko 50mm macro, f/8, 1/125 sec., ISO 1600, heavily filtered greenhouse lighting, handheld) Texture (“Dove Wings”) is from Leslie Nicole’s French Kiss Textures

Oh, this is lovely, Celeste! The color and composition are just wonderful, and the flowers almost look like two birds overlapping their wings in an embrace!

  • Thank you, Anita! I see the bird resemblance now that you mention it. :)

This is very beautiful Celeste ~ and what a gorgeous shade of red they are!!!!!!

  • Thanks very much, Sharon! The red really caught my eye, as it’s not a color I associate with orchids.

What a lovely colour they are! I like your title because not only do they look identical, but they remind me of little 5 year-old twins that I know who are seemingly always attached to each other!

  • Thank you, Bette! I was struck by the color, as I haven’t seen a completely red orchid before.

absolutely stunning, love the texture and colour of the background as it really makes these beautiful orchids stand out

  • Thanks very much, Annette! The original pale gray background looked so boring that I had to do something. :)
