These are not really rivers, of course, but the landscape of a leaf can sometimes seem like a larger world. This is part of a large elephant’s ear leaf, and the plant is native to Polynesia. (Olympus E-510 & Zuiko 50mm macro, f/8, 1/40 sec., ISO 400, open shade, handheld)

You have such an amazing eye, Celeste. I wonder how many people pass these right by without realizing the magical photographic possibilities in the landscape of a leaf. Wonderful angle, lighting, and texture!

  • Thank you, Anita! I understand walking past because I’ve done it myself. This plant is next to a frequently traversed path at my favorite botanical garden. :) This time it was the light that made all the difference.

love the detail in this Celeste, it’s absolutely amazing … I see many of your shots are taken with your 50mm … that lens is going on my wishlist !

  • Thank you, Annette! Certain leaves are such great subjects! As for the Zuiko 50mm macro, it’s a fabulous lens and lives on my E-5 more than any other lens I own. It’s also good for a lot more than macro work.

I thought of an aerial view of the Amazon when I first looked at this.

  • That mental image works for me! Thank you, Bette.
