This stage of bloom in pink rice flowers (Ozothamnus diosmifolius, an Australian native) is past the white and pink bud stage when florists like to use it. However, I find this strawflower-like stage quite delicately beautiful. The flowers are approximately life-size as you view this page, and these are the natural beige colors of the flowers. I added only a slightly blurred glow as a vignette. (Olympus E-5 & Zuiko 50mm macro, f/11, 1/500 sec., ISO 200, morning sun, handheld) Here’s another image from my portfolio showing the pink buds:

Beautifully photographed, Celeste. Have to confess that I am not familiar with this rice flower and it is not similar to any that I do know!

  • Thank you, Bette! I’ve since added a small image link to another photo of mine that shows the pink stage. Perhaps that will look familiar to you.

What beautiful flowers these are..I have never seen these.. when you view large you can see the creamy sort of white color mixed in with the beige…and as I always admire your exposure.. I searched for blown out highlights.. not a one…just kidding..but there’s none….Excellent photography, Celeste…and really pretty flower too! ….you can even see petal detail in the light-color areas…

  • Thanks, Katherine! These are small and delicate, and it does take some care to avoid overexposure. You know me and my devotion to the histogram. :)

I love the color, shapes and patterns in this capture – congratulations on your feature! The blurred glow vignette really emphasizes the clarity and detail in the center.

  • Thank you, Anita! These flowers are so dainty and incredibly detailed that I wanted to share a macro view. I’m glad you like my vignette effect!
