Bermuda's Kathleen - a heritage rose by

This is one of the heritage roses growing in the Rose Garden at The Huntington Botanical Gardens in San Marino, California. It’s classified as a “found” rose (date of origin unknown) – specifically one of the so-called “Bermuda mystery roses” found in gardens on the island. I was taken with its old-fashioned simplicity in white with the palest touches of pink. Unfortunately, this rose has no fragrance. (Olympus E-5 & Zuiko 50mm macro, f/11, 1/125 sec., ISO 320, open shade, handheld)

There is something very still and quiet about this. The flower is beautiful and poised against the rich, dark green background.

  • Thanks very much for your thoughtful comment, Bette! Maybe it seems still and quiet because I was the only person in the heritage section of the rose garden at the time I made this image. :)

Beautiful soft tones of the rose. Great contrast.

  • Thanks ever so much, Joy, for your comment and fave! The coloring of this variety is so pretty and so pale that I was glad not to find it in full sun!

What a gorgeous rose, captured perfectly. The color and lighting are wonderful, and I love the shape of the petals and the delightful curve of the inner petals.

  • Thanks very much, Anita. When I first saw the bush of these roses, I thought they were quite special.
