Introducing leggings. You’ll never run out of inspiration.

The first morning of 2012 was a quiet one at my local botanical garden and seemed to me the perfect way to start a new year. A small patch of love-in-the-mist surprised me last week, growing in a raised bed in part of the garden where volunteers plant whatever they like. I returned to that patch today, as I love these strange and fantastic flowers. (Olympus E-5 & Zuiko 50mm macro, f/11, 1/100 sec., ISO 500, morning sun)

Only you can have Nigella in January, Celeste.
Here in Canada we got wind and snow…
    Beautiful work.

  • Thanks, Eby! Yes, we have a big difference in climate. Even so, I was really surprised (and delighted) to see these blooming, as they are not in season here either.

Nice find and capture! Beautiful lighting! Are these also called Love in the Mist?

  • Thanks very much, Angie! Yes, these are known as love-in-the-mist. “Nigella damascena” is the botanical name.

Such beautiful flowers and the blue is so attractive and great lighting too….sounds like you started your year in your favorite way….if this is your first shot of 2012 you have set your bar mighty high…..

  • Flowers love morning light, and I love whatever makes the flowers look their best. :) This is not my very first shot of the year but part of my first set of the year. The fact that the set includes a Nigella is unusual and special.

This week Celeste I promised myself to steer away from flowers/nature (as I think I like them too much) but I just could not help myself with this shot of yours haha. The colours, lighting but especially the depth of field are just perfect as always with your work!

  • Thanks very much for the feature, Darryl! Of course I’m biased, but I don’t think you can like flowers too much. :) You chose a varied group for features, and I’m honored to be among them.
