This is part of the operating carousel in Shoreline Village, Long Beach, California: a carousel “horse” designed to look like a dragon. (The other creatures on this carousel are horses, but I prefer the dragon because it’s different.) Even at f/3.5, I thought too much was in focus, plus I wanted a vintage look, so I added texture layers. I used parts of the same texture over and over, masking to blend everything together until I got the look I had imagined. (Olympus E-510 & Zuiko 40-150mm zoom at 40mm, f/3.5, 1/40 sec., ISO 400, tungsten light, handheld) Texture courtesy of Shadowhouse Creations.

Beautiful image!!!!!! I have never seen a carousel dragon before, so unique!

  • Thanks, Angie! I guess it is unique. Today (New Year’s Eve) I went to this area and took another look at the carousel. All horses but for this one dragon!

The color image is a more playful image…..

  • Thanks for your perceptive comment, Thomas. Color vs. black and white makes a really big difference in the mood and feeling of this one.
