Flowers can become quite abstract when viewed this close. You are looking at the edge of a poinsettia bract viewed against out-of-focus bracts. This is not a potted plant but rather a very large shrub growing at my local botanical garden. Poinsettias are native to Mexico and Central America and are also happy to grow outdoors in Southern California and some other warm locations.
