I spotted this tulip in a flower stall at the local farmers market. To emphasize the play of light and shadows on the petal textures, I desaturated and then painted the image in a new color. I chose this shade of periwinkle blue because it emphasizes the play of light and shadow and brings out the beauty of the petal textures. I brought in a masked texture layer to add a slightly misty and mysterious feeling. (Olympus E-510 & Zuiko 50mm macro, f/6.3, 1/320 sec., handheld).
