Trying to create close-up photographs in an area full of cactus, succulents and euphorbia can be risky. As you might guess, one can’t easily get close enough to some flowers in such an area to use a macro lens. My zoom with some macro capability comes in handy in such cases! This is a classic Crown of Thorns plant (Euphorbia milii), and you can see a hint of the thorny stalk at the lower right. (Olympus E-510 & Zuiko 70-300mm zoom at 300mm, f/6.3, 1/320 sec., ISO 400, open shade, handheld) Texture courtesy of Shadowhouse Creations.
