A single tulip, isolated from the first small patch of blooms at my local botanical garden in early February. I switched to a zoom lens because I didn’t want to step on the very soft soil and disturb the new growth in this patch. (Olympus E-510 & Zuiko 70-300mm zoom at 202mm, f/6.3, 1/200 sec., ISO 100, late morning sun, handheld) Textures courtesy of Shadowhouse Creations.

I so like tulips and, in Toronto, they seem only in abundance for a few short weeks in late spring…then they are gone… what vibrant and eye-catching color on this one…!

  • Thanks, Katherine. Ours this year lasted maybe two weeks in February before they were wiped out by a long spell of heavy rain. I had no idea that my first chance was also my last for this year!

Love the light and colors and the transparency of the petals. Beautiful work, Celeste. Love the fine texture here.
Looks so good as a greeting card and as a framed picture, too.
    Have a wonderful evening.

  • Thanks, Eby! Tulip petals are actually quite complex, but you never see that until the light shines through.

The beautiful colour and the translucence of the petals with the light shining through them create a stunning tulip portrait.

  • Thank you, Teresa! The light coming through the petals was what attracted me.
