The glorious red sails you see here grace the historic vessel known as the American Pride, official tallship of Long Beach, California, USA, and part of a nonprofit that provides extraordinary science education experiences for children. They also do charters, and I was thrilled to be aboard this ship yesterday (8/28/2011) for a three-hour harbor excursion with lunch – a summer party for employees and guests of Ami Adini & Associates of Los Angeles (where I am the Technical Editor). We had a fantastic afternoon aboard this wonderful ship! (Olympus E-5 & Zuiko 9-18mm zoom at 9mm, f/8, 1/800 sec., ISO 200, handheld – lying on my back!)

What a wonderful perspective Celeste . . .I love the way you’ve captured the texture of the sails and the shadows give this shot such depth. Glad you had a good day :-)

  • Thanks, Teresa! The sails were immense, and the full afternoon sun guaranteed the shadow play — lots of fun to shoot!

I really appreciate the PoV you chose here – lovely contrast too.

  • Thank you, Rachael. As soon as they raised those magnificent red sails, I knew I had to capture the full height soaring into the blue. I had hoped to get images like this, which is why I had my wide-angle zoom with me.
