Wandering near the cactus garden at my local botanical garden, I spotted flashes of pure white that were not there the week before. It turned out that I was very fortunate to witness the first day of bloom for these Golden Torch cacti (columns are about 5 to 8 feet tall). They are native to western Argentina and Bolivia. (Zuiko 70-300mm zoom at 100mm, f/8, 1/1600 sec., ISO 200, bright morning sun, handheld)
