A red skimmer dragonfly (Libellula saturata) perched on a reed at the edge of a pond. At one point while I was shooting, he turned his head toward me and seemed to be smiling for the camera. Note the effect of sunlight shining through his wings and projecting a lacy pattern on the reed. (Olympus E-510 & Zuiko 70-300mm zoom at 300mm, f/7.1, 1/250 sec., ISO 100, morning sun, handheld)

Beautifully captured, Celeste, and you can even see the shadow of the little hairs on his “arms” on that reed.. that’s fabulous work… I’m sure he was honoured to have his photo take by you!

  • Thanks very much, Katherine. I enjoyed this little guy a lot, as he turned up regularly in the same area over a period of weeks. I got lots of practice!
