The dahlias at my local botanical garden are growing so vigorously right now that I can see major changes from one Sunday to the next. These pink and white beauties are especially photogenic when they get a little morning sunlight shining through their petals. Droplets remaining from the morning watering add a little sparkle. (Olympus E-5 & Zuiko 50mm macro, f/6.3, 1/200 sec., ISO 200, partly cloudy/morning sun, handheld — framed in camera, no crop)

Such a beauty, Celeste, and pink is my fave as you know…. I guess you go out super early in the morning, don’t you?

  • Thank you,Kathleen! Yes, I know pink is your fave, and I think this particular dahlia variety is one of the prettiest pinks ever. I captured this one between 8 and 9 a.m., as the garden is open to members at 8.

Love the way you composed this incredibly beautiful shot!

  • Thanks very much, Christine. So often, the flower itself guides my composition, and that was definitely the case here.

Fantastic macro!! Dahlias are gorgeous flowers…

  • Thank you, Maria. I agree completely about dahlias. I’m mad about them, and in fact spent part of my morning photographing more of them :)
