Just for fun!

A view from space? The base photo is actually quite Earthbound, a macro of a portion of my car’s dirty rear window. The substance on the window is a bird dropping that baked in the sun long enough to dry out and crack. I thought it looked kind of like a planet viewed from space, and that was the germ of the idea.

In Photoshop I made 3 copies of the original. I created the color changes and variations in lab mode in both the lab and lightness channels (separate layers) in 2 files. I then brought the lab layers into the 3rd file and experimented with different blending modes and opacities. Finally, I added a new empty layer on top, ran Render/Clouds, changed the blend mode to Screen (to make black disappear) and took the layer opacity down by about half.
