A capture from the cactus garden at my local botanical garden between rain showers. This is some variety of Cleistocactus, possibly silver torch. The flower is quite small, extending roughly an inch to an inch and a half from the cactus column. (Olympus E-5 & Zuiko 50mm macro, f/16, 1/100 sec., ISO 1000)

Fabulous detail Celeste and nicely composed botanical image

  • Thanks very much, Kym! This one was a challenge, between the rain showers and the sharp thorns everywhere. :)

Wondrous and bizarre. I’m sure I’ve seen this, in a science fiction movie, trying to eat people. Amazing how alien the world looks when close-up.

  • LOL, I know just what you mean. It’s the unexpected and sometimes strange beauty that makes macro endlessly fascinating to me.

This is gorgeous, Celeste, I’ve never seen anything like it, but it looks so exotic! Fine capture!
    Dave ;-)

  • Thank you, Dave! I can well imagine you wouldn’t have these in your climate, but we have a desert climate in a lot of Southern California. Many cactus blooms are indeed exotic!

Love the angle. Excellent capture and great details.

  • Thank you, Joy! Cactus flowers can be challenging, even downright dangerous, but they are often beautiful and exotic.
