I had been trying for a few weeks to capture the fiery look of young Japanese maple leaves backlit by morning sun at my local botanical garden. For whatever reason, “the look” I wanted eluded me until I tried again on a recent windy morning, held onto the stem below the foreground leaf, and shot with a wide aperture to blur the background and get a fast shutter speed. I added texture to the background to further highlight the leaf and its veins. (Olympus E-5 & Zuiko 50mm macro, f/4.5, 1/800 sec., ISO 200) Textures courtesy of Shadowhouse Creations.
