Buds shaped like kangaroo paws give this plant its name. It is native to and the official flower of Western Australia (but the plant has been successfully introduced to Southern California, where this one was found growing quite happily near some California poppies along a roadside in the High Desert region). The green flower is on display here, showing off its unique shape. (Olympus E-510 & Zuiko 35mm macro, f/8, 1/40 sec., ISO 400)
