A dahlia the colors of sunshine, scattered with water drops left from the early morning watering, captured at my local botanical garden. To play up the drama of the shapes and colors, I added various drawing/sketch and paint effects on separate masked layers with varied opacities and blend modes (using Topaz Simplify, Topaz Detail, and the oil paint filter in Photoshop CS6). (Olympus E-5 & Zuiko 50mm macro, f/11, 1/125 sec., ISO 400, filtered morning sun, handheld)

You artist, you! This is marvellous, Celeste! And the oil filter is the perfect, finish.

  • Bette, thank you for that delightful compliment! I was very happy with the way the oil filter worked with the other effects I used.

I adore what you have done artistically to this dahlia, Celeste!!! Divine colors and I love the balance… and what depth, drawing the eye to the backdrop of petals… Fave, why of course!!!

  • I’m very happy you like this one, Susan. I knew I wanted a noticeable drawing effect and had fun experimenting until I reached what you see here. Thank you!

A beautiful crossover between a photo and a drawing.

  • Thank you very much, Hans. I wanted a look that clearly combined photo and drawing, so I’m happy it struck you that way.
