OK, I know I just posted a photo of peach blossoms, but I went back to visit the trees again today (5 April 2014) and had to share the joy I felt in seeing these these exquisite spring blooms bursting from bare branches. These are the flowering peach trees that grace the campus of California State University, Long Beach. I went wide open with my macro lens for mood and feeling. (Macro purists can shudder all they like at the horror of using a lens at its largest and softest aperture – for me this is about emotion and not scientific recording.) (Olympus E-5 & Zuiko 50mm macro, f/2, 1/8000 sec, ISO 160, afternoon sun, handheld)

beautiful flower picture Celeste! I love the blue soft background with branches. usually I don’t like branches behind but in this case it’s really nice. well done ;)

  • Thank you, Manon, happy you like this one! I agree with you about branches, as they usually create clutter in the background. In this case I liked the pattern and thought the branches would not distract if I was able to blur them.

The wide-open lens did the trick! The foreground flowers are perfectly in focus and the lines of the bud-laden branches in the background make a beautifully blurred setting for them! Favourite :)

  • Thank you for that wonderful compliment, Bette! I was quite happy with the way this one turned out.

Absolutely full of beauty and emotion, Celeste! Such pretty colors. With the weather and cold temps here who knows when our Cherry Blossoms will arrive . . . I will enjoy yours in the interim!

  • Thanks very much, Katherine! These are actually peach blossoms, which are larger and fluffier than most cherry blossoms I’ve seen but just as short-lived as all the blossoms of fruit trees seem to be in spring. I’ve now been to visit the trees three times this spring. :)
