I found this colorful character, a red-eared slider turtle, at the edge of a small lake at El Dorado Nature Center (Long Beach, California, USA). The park is home to a variety of wildlife and native plants in natural settings, and it’s a good place to walk and enjoy nature. Shortly before I photographed this turtle, an 8-year-old boy visiting with his mom gave me a short lecture on the habits and characteristics of snapping turtles (one of which was hanging out nearby). I always learn something new at this park. :) (Olympus E-5 & Zuiko 70-300mm zoom at 300mm [600mm in full-frame 35mm equivalent], f/8, 1/400 sec., ISO 200, early afternoon sun, handheld)
