This image is my reminder of why I should always have a camera with me. I was running errands on a Saturday afternoon when I saw a group of what appeared to be classic and antique vehicles, all red and silver, gathered in a parking lot. My brain registered “photo opportunity,” and I turned around, parked, and spoke to some very nice fellows who were happy to let me make some photos. They were driving vehicles that usually reside in the Long Beach Fire Museum (California), but that afternoon they had been part of a graduation ceremony for new Long Beach firefighters. One vehicle ran out of gasoline on the way back to the museum, and they were waiting for the person with the emergency gas supply to arrive. My photo opportunity ended when that gas arrived, but oh how glad I was that I had my camera with me that day. (Olympus E-510 & Zuiko 35mm macro, f/16, 1/160 sec, ISO 100, afternoon sun, handheld)

Dedicated to the idea that serendipity is wonderful, but it’s best if you’re ready for it. :)

How cool, Excellent clarity and angle. So lucky you had your camera.

  • Thank you, Joy! This truck was in prime condition and such a beauty! I’m not sure that anyone still does this kind of work in heavy chrome.

Wonderful classic shot, Celeste.. Brings me back many many years.. The Mack trucks were KING!

  • Thank you for the great comment, Joseph! I know what you mean about Mack trucks, as I recognized the name and the hood ornament immediately. The truck was massive and gave such an impression of solid dependability.

Really cool! You make everything beautiful!

  • Thank you so very much, Kristi! The truck was quite beautiful all by itself, but I did have to remove some power lines and such from the background. :)

What an outstanding capture, Celeste! Wonderful PoV, lighting and clarity and that highlight adds so much to the image. It’s great that you had your camera that day.

  • Thank you so much for the great comment, Anita! I was aware of the highlights at the time and chose my f/stop purposely to get the star effect. :)

Truer words were never spoken. It’s when I don’t take my camera that I always see something, so I usually have it with me all the time for this reason!

  • Thanks very much, Vivian. :)
