Cherry blossoms (“sakura” in Japanese – kanji shown in lower right corner of image) at South Coast Botanic Garden (Palos Verdes, California, USA) in a previous year that was especially good for the beautiful clouds of pink blooms. The bare simplicity of these branches with just a few bloom clusters reminded me of haiku. (Zuiko 70-300mm zoom at 141mm [282mm in full-frame 35mm equivalent], f/4.4, 1/250 sec., ISO 400, hazy afternoon sun, handheld) Post-processing in Photoshop CS6 using Topaz Clarity (blossoms only) plus textures (“Handmade rice paper” by Enchantedgal at DeviantART, “Square-174” from Jerry Jones’ Shadowhouse Creations, and “Dancing Cattails” from the Midsummer Dream set at Isabelle Lafrance Photography), slight overall desaturation and some localized blurring (masked) to further emphasize the painterly look.
