This glorious, perfectly formed dahlia was not yet fully open, but she was already signaling her intent to be queen of the dahlia garden, at least for that day. Composed in the camera (no crop); minimal processing (sharpening plus a subtle vignette). (Olympus E-510 & Zuiko 50mm macro, f/6.3, 1/100 sec, ISO 400, open shade, handheld)

A truly beautiful bloom Celeste ~ and so wondrously presented ….
I love the colour and the amazing softness (especially with such a strong flower)
Such a lovely image to view just now…thank you

  • Thanks very much, Sharon! Dahlias are indeed strong flowers, but this one has so many curves in the petals that give a soft and feminine impression – or at least that was my reaction to the flower. :)

Beautiful Dahlia, and a gorgeous colour Celeste, Excellent capture x

  • Thanks very much, Pauline! Although I often like to do very close petal studies of dahlias, this one’s complete form was too lovely not to photograph it within its garden setting.

Indeed she is! Positively glowing with the knowledge. Lovely tonal detail and colour in the petals and the background green is a superb foil for the dahlia.

  • Thanks very much, Bette! I was quite taken with her form and color.
