While photographing a very old ginkgo tree on the grounds of historic Rancho Los Cerritos (Long Beach, California), I saw a blur of red-orange at the edge of my field of vision. Look what a vibrant beauty I found hiding in the shade! This is a Hibiscus schizopetalus, native to tropical eastern Africa in Kenya, Tanzania and Mozambique.
