The Shakespeare Garden at the famous Huntington Library and Botanical Gardens (San Marino, California) features a great variety of delphiniums in colors ranging from pinks through purples to soft blues – and some startlingly bright blue delphiniums that are impossible to miss! While working on this image, I was reminded of Paul Mauriat’s classic instrumental hit from the 1960s, “Love Is Blue” (linked below). Wonderful detail Celeste….I feel like I am right there looking at them !!

  • Many thanks for the great comment, Thomas. I think this was the closest I’ve ever been to a delphinium, as the hairy center structure was new and fascinating to me.

    So gorgeous and so unusual.

  • Thanks very much, Christina! The strong blue of this delphinium really caught my eye, as I also thought it was unusual. In truth there are not all that many true blue flowers in nature, as so many of the ones thought of as blue actually tend toward purple.
