The dahlias at my local botanical garden begin showing their age in autumn. Although they are as beautiful as ever, they are fewer in number and some show less vitality – like this one whose stem couldn’t quite hold the blossom up (the angle is exactly as seen). Funny how this contrary angle looked exactly right to me for this flower, perhaps because I listened to the flower rather than trying to make it look “normal.” It’s true that flowers speak to me, and I have learned so much from them. (Olympus E-510 & Zuiko 50mm macro, f/6.3, 1/60 sec., ISO 400, open shade, handheld; not cropped, minimal processing)
