The Earl Burns Miller Japanese Garden is a treasure on the campus of California State University, Long Beach, serenely beautiful at any time of year but always a special treat in spring. This image has multiple layers added to soften the harsh midday light and create a painterly impression: digital brush strokes, Topaz Adjust, and textures, all mixed all with the original using varied opacities, blending modes and layer masks in Photoshop. (Olympus E-510 & Zuiko 70-300mm zoom at 149mm [298mm in full-frame 35mm equivalent], f/8, 1/500 sec., ISO 100, midday sun) Textures: Photoshop canvas, “You’d be surprised” from Jerry Jones’ Shadowhouse Creations and “Studio 1/Vesuvius” from Leslie Nicole’s French Kiss Textures.
Dedicated to the tranquil beauty of spring in a Japanese garden.
